Tales from the Crypt

This Saturday my dad came over to help me install a window I bought for the full bathroom on the main floor. The plan was for him to show me how to install this window so that I could eventually replace the rest of the windows on my own. When I talked to him earlier in the week, he said he would be over around 12:30pm. At 9:30am, he was knocking on my door. Of course I was still in bed so I quckt put some clothes on and answered the door. After removing the trim, we discovered that the window I had purchased was 3 x 4 inches too small. I picked up the window from Grand Rapids Sash and Door at their ‘once a year’ sale the weekend before. It’s a good thing I only picked up the one window as they would have all been the wrong size - and they don’t offer refunds. Note to self: remove the outside trim to accurately measure the size of the window. Because the window was too small, we had to make the frame smaller. After two visits to Lowe’s, a trip to my father-in-law’s house to use his table saw and 6 1/2 hours later, we had the window installed. I picked up some Great Stuff to fill in the gaps of the frame. Unfortunately, I forgot that the shit expands big time. It starting coming out of the gaps and was about to spill on the floor so I grabbed it with my hand. Big freaking mistake! I had that shit stuck all over my fingers. I tried to wash it off but that just made it worse. Argh! Since it was getting late, I proceeded to mow the lawn for the next 2 hours. I spent over 1/2 hour alone digging up all the pricker bushes and pulling them out by the roots in the back yard. Managed to get pricked a couple of times in the process. Hopefully they won’t be popping back up anytime soon.

I went on the web and looked up Dow’s website to see how to get this crap off my hands as it was really starting to annoy me. My pinky finger was completely covered with that yellow stuff. They recommend using a pumice stone and warm, soapy water. Later that night when Marie got home she found a pumice stone for me and I proceeded to grind that crap off my skin. My skin was feeling pretty raw after that, but it worked, thank goodness. Around 11pm, I picked up Snook and we hooked up with Sitcky, Sue, Josh, Mel, Ryan and his new love interest at the Black something or other on Ionia. We threw back a few beers there then headed over at Bar Divani where we stayed until 2:30am. Sticky was having people over at his place afterwards but I dropped Snook off at home and headed home myself since I had to get up early and was already feeling pretty tired.

On Sunday, Marie and I headed up to the cottage. The plan was for me to go up their for a couple of hours and then come home and put up the trim on the window, get the knotty pine room tack ragged and start staining it. I was having such a good time at the cottage fishing and all that I ended up staying the night. Marie’s 10 year old niece Rachael went fishing with Steve and I and managed to catch herself a really nice pike. I couldn’t believe it! I still have yet to catch a pike out of that lake and I’m starting to think I never will. Later that day I did finally manage to catch a pretty nice bass and also a speck, but still no pike. That was the first time I had caught anything this year. It’s finally warming up to the point where my fake bait looks appealing.

On Monday, I headed home around 10am and Marie stayed with her parents to go to the big sale in Howard City. After getting my measurements for the inside trim on the bathroom window, I headed over to Lowe’s and picked up trim along with plaster since some of the wall caved in a bit when we took out the old window. The trim was a little too big for the frame and I didn’t want to cut down the trim as it wouldn’t look right. So I added a 1/4″ all around the window frame and that worked great. I got all the trim cut up and mounted and it matches up great to the rest of the trim in the bathroom. I also patched up all the holes along with the big piece that caved in. That plaster has to dry 24 hours. I’ll take another look at it tomorrow night and see if I have to apply another coat. After that, I’ll paint the trim and the walls around the trim. Luckily we have plenty of the blue that was used on the walls.

I still didn’t get a chance to start staining that room yet. In order to do it Marie has to be out of the house for a couple of days since the stain and the polyurethane smells are really bad for the baby. I think what I’m going to do is start staining and polyurethaning the doors and cabinets in the garage during the week, get the room all tack ragged and then stain and polyurethane it this weekend. With my luck and the amount of time it takes me to do things like this, I’ll be lucky if I get half the doors and cabinets done.

Well, I’m off to watch some Tales from the Crypt episodes. Rick bought all 7 seasons (22 DVD’s worth!) at Novi. Whoever put these together did a pretty nice job. Each disc has a menu with information about each episode along with the guest stars. I just finished watching a werewolf/vampire episode with Timothy Dalton and Beverly D’Angelo. Good stuff.

Revenge of the Boot

The quality on this workprint is amazing. Rumor has it there are additional scenes in this copy.

This really is a movie you need to experience on the big screen. I saw it twice on opening day (once at 12:30am and then again at 1:40pm when I took my employees out to see it on an ‘extended lunch break’. Can’t wait till the IMAX version comes out. It’s weird to think that I’ve grown up with these movies. I was 3 when A New Hope came out and now, 28 years later, the the final film in the series is out.

I wonder if this means we will finally see Indiana Jones 4? I’m all for it, if Harrison Ford comes back that is..

Revenge of the Sith

All I can say right now is I’m in shock. ROTS was amazing. Definately my favorite of the prequels and right up there with Empire. It completely kicked my ass.

Diabetes free

Marie got a call from her doctor’s office today with the results from the diabetes test they did last week Friday. Everything checked out fine! The boy’s weight is still a little low but our doctor reassured us that everything looks fine. We go back again on June 8th and they will be doing another ultrasound to see how he’s progressing. We don’t get to videotape this one but we will get some pictures. I asked our doctor about me videotaping the delivery and she has no problems with that at all. Sweet!

The Novi Experience

Novi was a blast this past Saturday. Some of this year’s highlights:

* Steve & Ryan buying the R2D2 cooler

* Rick spending over $500

* Rick actually having $500 to spend

* Rick going in the hottub and swimming pool in his boxers - and using one of Jeremy’s pins to keep ‘the snake’ from escaping.

I posted pics in the Photo Gallery from the Novi trip. The picture of Jason & Matt in the hot tub makes me laugh everytime I look at it. Too damny funny.

On Sunday, I FINALLY finished sanding the knotty pine room. You don’t even know how happy this makes me. I also ripped out all the carpet and cut it in half - making it easier for me to get it out of the house by myself. The floors under the carpet are in pretty bad shape. No matter tho as we will be putting in new carpet. It will be nice to have one room with carpet. Now all I need to do is tackrag the walls and get them prepped for the stain. That will be a breeze after all this damn sanding.

I went into work at 8am this morning and ending up leaving at 8pm. Then I came home and spent three hours installing Windows XP and a bunch of other applications on a workstation for a lady I know. I’ll be going in at 8am on Wednesday to cut over to the new phone system. It’s going to be a long day as I’ve got tickets to the 12:30am showing of Episode 3. Then on Thursday afternoon I’m taking my employees out to see it. Am I a cool boss or what?
