Panasonic PV-GS250

Here’s the miniDV camera I got this week - the Panasonic PV-GS250. I originally ordered the PV-GS400 back in late April but kept being told it was on backorder and would arrive in two weeks. Two weeks turned into almost two months. After doing some digging around, I found out they discontinued the 400. So I did a little research and found the GS250. For the price, it’s a great camera and very close in feature match to the 400. I picked up a extra battery and a UV filter along with 6 miniDV tapes. I’m hoping to spend some time this weekend learning my way around it. So far I’m very happy with how it feels in my hand. It’s smaller than I thought it and is very light weight - both great features when you have to hold one for hours on end.
The Bruce Campbell event at the Wealthy Theatre went great this weekend. The theatre, which holds just under 400 people, was full minus a handful of seats. Bruce did Q&A before showing Man With The Screaming Brain. He was cracking me up, ripping on people for asking stupid questions. The movie was ok, your typical ‘made for Sci-Fi’ film. I thought Ted Raimi was hilarious in it.
Ryan is DJ’ing at Club North again, which started on Saturday. Snook, Bill D and I made it out to the club after the film. There was quite a few people there for the first night, hopefully a sign of things to come. You know where I’ll be spending my Saturday’s, that is until my kid is born. I don’t think the baby monitor will reach that far…

Got the new window installed in the nursery this past weekend. It went in smoothly and looks really nice. Check it out:

We got it in just in time as it started to downpour about 45 minutes after we got it in. I did have one minor snag while we were taking the old window out. After I got all the trim off, Steve told me to get his truck so we could put the old window in the back of it and drop it off in the dumpster at his work. When I get back, I see one of the windows is broken, with glass all over the nusery. Steve starts getting impatient since he can’t get the window out so he just starts pushing on the whole window, trying to get it out. This in turns causes all of the glass to break, sending glass everywhere. I’m yelling “Steve, stop it!!” and he finally does but the damage is done. I spend the next 20 minutes picking up shards of glass outside and in the nursery, cutting myself in the process. Argh.
The knotty pine room finally feels like it’s coming to an end. All the doors have been mounted and I installed a couple of new door latches to replace the ones that were broke. The room looks great! We went carpet shopping and we picked out a style and color. They will be installing it next week Wednesday. Once the carpet is in the room will finally be useable. We still need to buy two new doors and do the trim but that’s it. So far I’m not having much luck finding trim that matches the dimensions of the old trim.
I’ve had the whole house to myself this week. Marie is up at the cottage with her friend Rachael. I’m almost starting to feel like a bachelor, staying up late watching episodes of Smallville and heading out for late night fast food. I have to admit, I’m starting to get a little lonely. I miss my Brecken - and of course Marie! I’ll be heading up there on Saturday along with a few of Marie’s ex co-workers and Rachael’s husband. That night I’ll be at the Wealthy Theatre as Bruce Campbell will be there doing signings for his new book and then showing his new movie Man With The Screaming Brain at 10pm.
Groovy.
Somebody saaaaave me
A couple weeks ago Josh let me borrow Season 1 of Smallville. I always thought the show looked kinda corny but after watching a couple of episodes I was hooked. I’;m already done with Season 1 and itching to borrow Season 2 from him, especially since the last episode ended with To Be Continued. I also finally watched Garden State and really liked it, although the ending could have better. I didn’t realize that Zach Braff wrote, directed and starred in it until the credits rolled. Not a bad first effort.
As of Friday, Marie is due in 6 weeks. 6 friggen weeks!?!?! The time is flying by. Last week we had our 4th (and final) ultrasound. He weighed 4 pounds, 1 ounce. The doc said he’s exactly where he should be. We got another picture from the ultrasound but it’s not very good. The first one we got is still the best by far. The latest one is a shot of him looking straight ahead but it’s hard to make out anything. My damn videocamera still has not arrived. If it’s not here by next month, I’m gonna have to make arrangements to borrow one from work. There’s no way I’m missing out on videotaping the birth. Speaking of birth’s, Erin had her baby last week - Samantha Marie. She’s a little cutie. Marie and I will have to get over to her place sometime soon and see her.
The walls of the knotty pine room are finally done. Jack came out two Saturday’s ago and helped me put the second coat on and it only took us three hours. Saved me alot of time, that’s for sure. I also finished up all the doors and cupboards. Since I’m horrible at painting cupboards and don’t have the patience for it, Marie’s mom is painting them this week. Tomorrow night Marie & I are going carpet shopping and hopefully we’ll be able to find something we like and get it scheduled to be installed this weekend (yeah right). All that’s left to do is paint the ceiling where the water leaked in from the roof and purchase/stain/polyurethane/mount new trim for the ceiling.
My uncle Bill is at Mary Free Bed and is doing well. He has full use of his arms, thank God. He’s gonna be in physical therapy for the next couple of months at Mary Free Bed. It’s going to be a long, hard road for him. His brothers and sisters have been doing a great job of spending time with him and keeping his spirits high.
The new window I customed ordered from Lowe’s for the nusery came in the other day. This weekend Steve and I will be installing it. It’s a big window (about 7′ x 4′) so I’ll definately need the help. I’m hoping I’ll be able to reuse the old outside trim. After that’s installed, all we need to do is put up the new blinds and curtains and the nursery is all set.
I managed to get my Multi-Pac arcade game up and running again. I took a suggestion from my friend James and checked the RAM. The 2114 at 4N was the culprit. After replacing that, the game was happy again. Gotta love easy fixes.
