Late night feeding

Ethan woke me up around 4am for a late night feeding. He slept just over 6 hours straight so I can’t complain. After his feeding/burping/changing, he went back to sleep shortly after 5am. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do the same. I laid in bed for an hour and couldn’t fall back asleep so I figured I would just get up. I didn’t realize that TBS is showing Bosom Buddies at 6am. Probably because under normal circumstances I would never be up this early, let alone watching TV.

Marie is feeling much better than she was last week. Her meds have been adjusted and seem to be working better, tho she is experiencing some side effects that she never had before like dizziness, increased heart rate and shakiness. I’ve been doing everything I can to help make her life less stressful like doing all the late night feedings, helping out with her animals and the house work. Marie’s mom has been coming over every morning after I leave for work to help and spend time with Marie. If it wasn’t for her I don’t know what we would do. Postpartum depression is some scary stuff and I never realized how many women go thru it after having a baby. On Wednesday night, Marie & I went to a postpartum depression support group for the first time. I was the only guy there so I was a little uncomfortable at first. I asked the 6 women in the group if they had a problem with me being there and they didn’t mind at all. They were actually impressed that I came with Marie to support her. I couldn’t imagine not being there for her.

This past weekend I spent over 7 hours raking up leaves and mowing the lawn. I filled up two trailer loads of leaves from my yard. I then brought them over to my father in law’s house and ran them thru the mulcher. He dug out his compost pile a little bigger this year to make room for my leaves. Last year we were barely able to hold all my leaves and his. There are still a ton of leaves that need to come down from the trees so I’m sure I’ll be spending many weekends this fall racking them up. Oh, the joys of being a home owner.

Marie & I’s two year anniversary is coming up on the 31st. I can’t believe it’s already been two years. Since money is tight right now, we are going to spend our anniversary weekend up at the cottage. Hopefully the weather won’t be too cold and I can do some fishing. Speaking of fishing, last week I went out and caught three nice bass, one of them being the largest smallmouth bass I have ever caught. Man was that a rush reeling him in! Unfortunately the wind was blowing so hard that I spent most of my time paddling out of the weeds.

For those of you in GR, DJ Zombie will be throwing a Halloween party at Club North on Saturday the 29th. I should be able to make it. And for those of you who were at Club North last weekend, I promise not to party as much as I did that night. Give me a little slack tho, it had been the first time I had been out of the house in almost 2 months. I needed to unwind, probably just not as much as I did. And Josh, thanks for letting me crash in your bed. I loved the Spiderman sheets bro.

5 weeks old

Ethan is five weeks old today. As I type this he is sleeping next to me on the couch. He looks soo damn cute! Ethan is doing well tho he was pretty cranky on Sunday. I didn’t get a chance to do much of anything that day since he would only lay down for less than an hour and he would get fussy or start crying. By the end of the day I was completely exhausted. It probably didn’t help that I didn’t get much sleep the night before. I can’t complain too much tho as he is still sleeping 5-7 hours a night. I took Monday as a vacation day and ended up taking off today as Marie had two doctor visits. Since Wednesday she’s been in rough shape and hasn’t been eating much. She already weighs less than she did before she was pregnant. Marie was officially diagnosed with postpartum depression and we were able to finally sit down with her PCP and a postpartum depression expert to help Marie thru this difficult time.

We had quite a few visitors this past Saturday. Marc & Hoo stopped by for awhile and Marc held Ethan for the first time. Jack stopped over for a couple of hours to see Ethan for the first time. Eric & Sue also stopped by to see Ethan for the first time before heading over to Club North. I’ll be uploading the pictures to the Ethan gallery tonight. We haven’t had that many visitors in one day since we were at the hospital.

On Saturday Marc helped me move my 42″ widescreen HDTV from the basement to the main floor. The home theatre room doesn’t have any furniture other than my computer desk and a chair so it’s not that comfortable to watch movies down there. Once I actually have a bunch of free time and extra money, I’m going to finish off that room. With the Comcast digital receiver, I can get HDTV broadcasts from the major networks so I can enjoy some of my favorite shows in HD. With my DVD player in progressive scan mode and using the composite video hookups, my DVD’s look great on this TV. We moved the 25″ TV into the bedroom tho I still need to drill a hole down to the basement and run a coax cable so we can get cable TV in their.

I watched A History of Violence last night and really enjoyed it. It’s good to see that a Cronenberg film is doing well in the theatres, pulling in almost 9 million at the box office it’s opening week. Speaking of Cronenberg, I’ve been wanting to watch eXistenZ again. I haven’t seen it since Marie & I saw it in the theatre, which was quite the experience. Marie farted so bad that I thought I was going to puke. There was only one other guy in the theatre with us but he was sitting only 3 rows in front of us so there is no way he didn’t smell it. We could barely contain ourselves.

A new look

If your a regular to the site, you can probably tell I’ve made some changes. I’ve moved over to a new blog system (Wordpress) but still kept it simple. I was able to import all of my previous entries but I had to ditch the comments. The administrative backend of this system is much nicer than what I was using previously. The plugins that are available are quite impressive. In the next few weeks I’ll be adding some new features to spice up the site a bit. Feel free to leave a comment on this message and let me know what you think of the new digs.

Ethan is growing before our eyes. On Tuesday he will be 1 month old. I can’t believe how fast the time is going by! Today he graduated from eating 3 ounces per feeding to 4 ounces as the 3 ounces just wasn’t cutting it anymore. He’s still sleeping pretty good at night. Most nights I feed him before I go to bed around 1am and he usually doesn’t get up until 5am-6am, tho there are times when he only sleeps for 2 hours before he’s up again. And then there are the times when after eating in the middle of the night, he gets fussy and won’t go back to sleep for hours. Overall, the good far outways the bad. He’s a pretty content boy and he just loves being pushed in his stroller around the neighborhood. I think the fresh air helps him sleep better too.

Speaking of neighborhood, a few of the families in the neighborhood have brought us dinner and desert a couple of nights over the past two weeks. All of the food we have received has been delicious! It’s been a really nice way to meet our neighbors and everybody has been really nice.

I just finished setting up an album in the photo gallery with a bunch of pictures of Ethan that Marie & I have taken with the digital camera. Enjoy!
