Festival ‘06

Ethan experienced Festival of the Arts for the first time today - and boy was it a wet one! Marie had to work at the Arena at 5:30pm so we figured we would hang out at Festival for awhile and then she would just walk to work and I would head home with Ethan. After stopping at a couple of different booths, I was craving a waffle cone so we got a mint chocolate chip cone. All of a sudden it started raining hard. After about a minute or so, it started hailing! Ethan was in his stroller and covered for the most part but it was raining and hailing so hard that he was still getting hit. We didn’t really have anywhere to go for cover so the people running the tent we got our waffle cone from let us get some shelter. Unfortunately by that time we were complety soaked! After we got Ethan to calm down and the hail stopped, we decided to head for the car - which was about a 10 minute walk away. A women working the booth was kind enough to give us an umbrella. It’s good to know there are still kind people around.

I’ve been on vacation for the past week and have been enjoying my time off. We spent last week Sunday & Monday up at the cottage. I spent quite a bit of time in the lake since it was so damn hot. We put Ethan in the lake for the first time but I think it was too cold for him since he cried the entire time. On Monday I went out fishing and on my first cast I caught the biggest Pike I’ve ever caught. I spent about 2 minutes getting him up to the boat. The thing was so big I wasn’t sure how the heck I was going to get him in the boat and still hang on to the reel. Just as I was about to try and grab him, he headed straight down and broke the line. I wasn’t really looking forward trying to get that lure out of his mouth so he saved me the trouble. I tell ya what, those things are some scary, prehistoric looking mofo’s with some sharp teeth. Note to self - bring a net next time.

This past week I’ve been working on getting this Asteroids arcade game restored that I picked up almost two years ago. I got all the metal parts stripped, primed and painted with semi-gloss black. I ended up using an extra coin door I had since the one on this cab had some much damn rust on it I didn’t feel like spending the time wire brushing/sanding it down. The extra one I had was in good shape so I just added a couple new coats of paint and it was good to go. This cab is coming together nicely. I need to order a new control panel overlay along with the cardboard graphic that was around the monitor. I installed a cap kit on the monitor, put in new deflection transistors and resoldered all the header pin connections. The monitor has a great picture with no screen burn. I’ve been having a hard time getting the logic board up and running properly. I’ve pretty much exhausted all my options so it looks like I’m gonna have to send it in for repair. If you know anyone who is looking for a really nice Asteroids, send them my way. Otherwise off to eBay it goes.
